Toshiba tips stream processor for Cell

EE Times reports that Toshiba will be producing a version of the Cell processor (Toshiba tips stream processor for Cell).  This version will be aimed at multimedia and will have fewer cores than the Cell processor used in the Sony PS3.

Samsung invests in picoChip

The EE Times reports that Samsung has participated in the “D” round of funding for picoChip (Samsung invests in picoChip).  It isn’t clear, however, how much of the $27 million funding round was contributed by Samsung.  PicoChip has raised over $70 million since its founding and is using its multicore DSP in WiMax and femtoCell reference designs.
