I just happened across this quad core device, the Fujitsu FR1000.  It appears to have an interesting toolset called SOFTUNE.  Much of the related documentation is only available in Japanese, however.

Texas Instruments has been making commercially successful multicore devices since the original OMAP for cellular handsets.  I just happened across their Multicore web pages.  Some good presentations and material.

From the EE Times.  Three cores, six, now 12 from AMD?  AMD discloses 12-core server chip  I guess even the old power-of-2 rule for hardware is disappearing in the multicore era.
